Adding new apps to Software Updater#59

Software Updater only identifies 6 of the 75 programs I have on my PC. In order to be of any real value it should identify most if not all of them.

Hi Geoffrey, thanks for the suggestion. Software Updater is quite flexible and we can update the list of supported applications dynamically.

If you had to pick, which 5 applications would make the most difference to your PC experience if Software Updater kept them updated?

Chrome, Macrium Reflect, WPS Office, EssentialPIM, VMware Player. It might be better if the user could update the list of supported applications. That way the list would be relevant specifically to the owner.

It’s not the straightforward. To add new applications we first do an evaluation to determine if the application is secure enough for CCleaner to redistribute it (if it’s not, we won’t risk introducing a vulnerability in our system or our users’). Next we need to set up a tracker to detect update changes as they occur, store the software on our secure servers, record the silent install parameters (they’re different for different configurations) so the user can install it ‘automagically’, and a few other things.

The process is just a click for the user but there’s quite a lot going on behind the scenes to keep it secure and reliable. I’ll definitely look into your suggestions, though! Keep them coming!

OK, I withdraw my suggestion. It’s nice that you’re so responsive to customer needs. Keep up the good work.
